South Africa's long unbeaten record in limited-overs cricket ended as they slumped to a comprehensive six-wicket defeat at the hands of India. The South Africans entered the contest having gone 20 matches without defeat and anything other than a loss in Bangalore would have seen them draw level with Australia's world record of 21 consecutive unbeaten games.
But it was not to be as India, for whom Irfan Pathan made major contributions with both bat and ball and Virender Sehwag clubbed a typically aggressive half-century, cruised to their victory target of 170 with over 14 overs in hand.
