37 Years Down The Road

(The Uefa Champions League Matchday 2)

37 years indeed since United first won the European Cup all thanks to a 4-1 mauling of the then, Portuguese champions, Benefica. With former greats in Sir Bobby Charlton and Eusebio, both still very affiliated with their beloved clubs as ambassadors still in the fold, one can be assured their rivalry will be entrusted onto the present crop of players flying the flag.

With 3 victories against Benefica in all 3 previous meetings, history's most certainly on our side. The highlight being a 5-1 hammering dished out in Benefica's own back yard, the Stadium of Light during the 1966 quaterfinals. It was on that night that George Best stepped up with a brace and enthralled europe with his ingenuity. I'd go with this formation in light of the injuries (Neville, Heinze, Brown, O'Shea, Keane)/suspensions (Rooney). Yeah you guessed right. 4-4-2. Thats the way to go.
