So it wasnt much of a backlash nor was it a mauling in any way. It was a hard fought victory that we thoroughly deserved. Perserverance, shear Grit and determination are some of the adjectives i'd associated with us. But ow well, its 3 points nonetheless which sees us move atop of group D in the champions league. Especially with the other clubs in the group, Villareal and Lille in a goaless stalemate. Its all good!
Was glad to see Giggs return to the starting lineup, with the captains armband and he proved his worth with a goal, albeit a deflection. It counts nonetheless. Him and richardson forged well on the left wing and caused mayhem for the portuguese champs which again leads me to ask, why hasnt he been playing all season?
With our injury plagued squad, i'd expect our other senior players to step up to the mark. Well, that didnt happen now did it, with scholesy's forgettable performance, yet again. Again, we had to rely on Van Der Sar's heroics in goal to keep us in the game. Alan Smith...time and again, he never does learn, does he?. Another needless foul on the edgy of the penalty box which led to the equaliser. WIth that, i must add that it was a sweetly struck free kick, well deserving of a goal.
Nistelrooys back to his best. His touch, his control. 2nd to none. If only the volley went in. would'a been a cracking goal.
If Only...
Bardsley played really well considering it was his european debut. A long term successor to gary neville perhaps? Its always swell that our academy's still churning out talent. (Fletcher, Richardson, O'Shea and now Bardsley)
