AirAsia extend sponsorship deal with Man United

Malaysia's low fare airline AirAsia will have a sponsorship deal with English Premier League club Manchester United for the second consecutive year. The new deal, which was signed on Saturday, will be from August 2006 to May 2007. The amount of the sponsorship was not disclosed but it is estimated to cost about £2.5mil to £3mil. Unlike the previous year, Tourism Malaysia was also invited by AirAsia to collaborate in the sponsorship to promote Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said in a statement: “I am delighted to welcome Tourism Malaysia to the successful Manchester United and Air Asia partnership. It highlights the universal appeal Manchester United has. We have toured Malaysia many times and each time I am blown away by the fans. We are made to feel so welcome and the fans are some of the most fanatical in the world. This continuing partnership with AirAsia and now Tourism Malaysia will bring the fans even closer enabling them to get a taste of Old Trafford and to experience being a part of Manchester United.

United chief executive officer David Gill added: "We are particularly pleased they have chosen to broaden the deal to include Tourism Malaysia. The club has an estimated 40 million fans in the Far East and with next year marking the 50th anniversary of Malaysian independence, it is a great opportunity to engage the Manchester United family in the celebrations. We hope that the partnership will be an enduring one."

Here's some even better news for the united faithful residing in SEA, there's gonna be a Far East Preseason tour next year and its highly likely that the red devils are gonna be stopping over in Kuala Lumpur for a exhibition game. Now here's hoping they dont come down while im in sydney!
